The former Finance Minister and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation revealed during a courtesy visit from the former Governor of Kano State, Ibrahim Shekarau, that he chose not to receive salary during his tenure as Finance Minister. He said he told the people who kidnapped him that he has no money but they didn't believe him because he was once a Minister.
